There is one simple yet surprisingly powerful tool, though, that can instantly help anyone feel calmer: humming.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">As well as being something that many people might do to music, humming is used in a yogic breathing technique known as <em data-qa=\"ContentSchemaRender-defaultRenderMapFunctions-Component\" class=\"css-1mniedq ex3nmsa15\">Bhramari pranayama<\/em>, or \u201chumming bee breath\u201d.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Gunjan Trivedi, a key researcher in the field, describes <em data-qa=\"ContentSchemaRender-defaultRenderMapFunctions-Component\" class=\"css-1mniedq ex3nmsa15\">Bhramari pranayama<\/em> as \u201ca basic nasal sound \u2013 a combination of \u2018mmmm\u2019 and \u2018nnnn\u2019 \u2013 that gets repeated for several minutes at a time\u201d.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Trivedi, the co-founder of Wellness Space, a mental health and therapy centre in the city of Ahmedabad in India\u2019s Gujarat state, believes humming is the simplest form of chanting, which involves repeating a mantra \u2013 a sound or phrase.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cChanting, given the use of a mantra, adds specific emotion and thoughts, which makes it a more advanced practice with additional benefits.
