{"id":18997,"date":"2025-12-12T12:42:52","date_gmt":"2025-12-12T04:42:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=18997"},"modified":"2025-12-12T12:42:52","modified_gmt":"2025-12-12T04:42:52","slug":"class-3-3a-licence-holders-in-spore-can-soon-drive-some-evs-up-to-3000kg","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=18997","title":{"rendered":"Class 3, 3A licence holders in S\u2019pore can soon drive some EVs up to 3,000kg"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">SINGAPORE \u2013 Class 3 and 3A driving licence holders in Singapore will soon be able to drive some<!-- --> <!-- -->electric vehicles with an unladen weight (ULW) <!-- -->of up to 3,000kg.<!-- --> <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">This is an increase from the current <!-- -->2,500kg<!-- --> limit, the Traffic Police (TP) said in a statement on <!-- -->Dec 12.<!-- --> <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The change will be rolled out from<!-- --> <!-- -->Dec 15<!-- --> through an exemption order, TP said, adding that this move further supports<!-- --> <!-- -->Singapore\u2019s commitment to fully transit to clean energy vehicles by <!-- -->2040.<!-- --> <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Class 3 and Class 3A licence holders can then operate the following models of electric light goods vehicles (LGVs) and electric small buses, which have an ULW of between <!-- -->2,501kg and 3,000kg<!-- -->, and were identified based on industry requests. <\/p>\n<div class=\"article-list-container\" data-testid=\"bulleted-article-list-test-id\">\n<ul class=\"pl-22 list-disc article-list-wrapper\">\n<li class=\"article-list-item list-item\" data-testid=\"bulleted-article-list-item-test-id\">\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Higer H5C High Roof<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"article-list-item list-item\" data-testid=\"bulleted-article-list-item-test-id\">\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Mercedes Benz eSprinter 320<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"article-list-item list-item\" data-testid=\"bulleted-article-list-item-test-id\">\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Ford F-150 Lightning<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li class=\"article-list-item list-item\" data-testid=\"bulleted-article-list-item-test-id\">\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Joylong EA5<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Existing Class 3 and 3A licence holders automatically qualify for this change, and no additional endorsement, update or modification to their licence is needed. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">TP said that these vehicles under the new limit have similar handling characteristics and dimensions as their internal combustion engine (ICE) counterparts with an <!-- -->ULW not exceeding 2,500kg.<!-- --> They are hence assessed to be safe for Class 3 and 3A licence holders to operate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Electric LGVs and electric small buses are typically <!-- -->400kg to 500kg<!-- --> heavier than ICE counterparts due to the weight of their batteries, which are usually located beneath the vehicle floor. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">TP said that this creates a lower centre of gravity and enhances vehicle stability, but does not impact fundamental road-handling characteristics like steering and turning radius, and dimensions such as wheelbase and vehicle length.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Currently, Class 3 and 3A licence holders can only operate <!-- -->LGVs<!-- --> and small buses with an ULW of up to 2,500kg.
