Content creator Viseth Ung visited Singapore for the first time recently, and upon touching down, declared that he was hungry after having just\u00a0plane food for two days.<\/p>\n
His mission? To head straight to a hawker centre for a meal. Sounds straightforward enough, but not if it’s your first time in Singapore (with jet lag too, we presume).\u00a0<\/p>\n
In an Instagram post, the American was seen strolling down the streets of Chinatown convinced he had found a hawker centre.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve been trying to walk around and find it [hawker centre] on the map and think this is it. All the food is right here, so we are just going to find a spot,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Wait, where is this hawker centre, you say?<\/p>\n
It seems Viseth had wandered into, not a hawker centre, but one of the many Chinese casual restaurants, and ordered a bowl of noodles with chicken and a drink.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s kind of expensive; I\u2019m not going to lie. It is like S$19 for the whole dish,\u201d he observed before tucking in.<\/p>\n
Umm\u2026 We might be the most expensive city in the world, but that is just diabolical.<\/p>\n
Fret not, because Viseth did eventually find out his mistake, as he reveals in his self-deprecating caption: \u201cAmerican idiot thinks he\u2019s eating at a Singapore hawker centre.\u201d<\/p>\n
However, netizens weren\u2019t letting him off that easily, many saying he should have done the bare minimum research.<\/p>\n
Others also called out the S$17 bowl of noodles, asking if he had been scammed.<\/p>\n
\u201cNo drink??\u201d someone asked, though another netizen highlighted that his entire meal cost S$19 with a can of Sprite.<\/p>\n
Doesn\u2019t sound any better to us.<\/p>\n
Viseth didn\u2019t say if he did eventually have more wallet-friendly hawker food in the end, but we sure hope he did.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
