Many of us are winding down 2025, and Google just dropped its list of the year\u2019s most-searched local personalities for this year.<\/p>\n
So which local personality piqued the interest of Singaporeans the most?<\/p>\n
At the top spot, it is not a celebrity, but National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) Secretary-General and Member of Parliament Ng Chee Meng<\/a>.<\/p>\n Coming in second is disgraced actor Ian Fang<\/a>, who was sentenced to 40 months\u2019 jail for sexual offences involving a minor.<\/p>\n For context, Chee Meng is the Member of Parliament (MP) for Jalan Kayu Single Member Constituency.<\/p>\n During the General Election 2025, searches for his name spiked when an old allegation from a former teacher describing an unpleasant experience with him at a 2017 Ministry of Education (MOE) dialogue session resurfaced online.\u00a0<\/p>\n Chee Meng, who was then Education Minister (Schools), was accused of being aggressive and patronising, a claim he later addressed with an apology, saying he “could have handled the situation better”.<\/p>\n Interestingly, six of the top 10 were tied to the General Election 2025.<\/p>\n Here are the top 10:<\/p>\n Google also revealed what else dominated search behaviour this year. In trending news, \u201cmortgage quote\u201d topped the list<\/p>\n The iPhone 17 came in second, while SG60 vouchers and CDC Voucher 2025<\/a> searches landed third and fourth.<\/p>\n On the entertainment front, Mediacorp\u2019s blockbuster drama\u00a0Emerald Hill<\/em>\u00a0<\/a>was one of the most searched shows, earning its place alongside global favourites such as Netflix\u2019s\u00a0<\/a>Bon Appetit, Your Majesty<\/a> <\/em>and\u00a0Squid Game<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n
