ARC Raiders<\/strong><\/em> players have discovered an interesting trick involving Smoke and Tagging Grenades that reveals and tracks nearby enemies’ locations, giving them an incredible advantage in PvP combat. The ethical boundaries of attacking others in ARC Raiders<\/em> have been one of the hottest topics within the community, though it hasn’t slowed down or prevented sporadic scuffles between survivors at the topside. Most players know by now that it’s best to stay prepared to defend rather than trust, and one thing that helps with staying prepared is being aware of the surrounding enemies.<\/p>\n

Players have been trying to come up with creative ways to locate others on the map using gadgets or exploits. For example, some have pointed out that spamming the ping button in ARC Raiders<\/em> can reveal enemies hidden in bushes. Others have suggested removing foliage by lowering graphics settings exposes camouflaged players. And now, Speranza survivors have introduced a new trick to spot and even track nearby enemies with what they call a set of “legal cheats.”<\/p>\n

A video making the rounds among ARC Raiders<\/em> fans shows a player wiping out an entire team of raiders single-handedly with the help of a couple of Smoke and Tagging Grenades. When the enemies appear, the player throws a few Smoke Grenades to block their vision, then follows up with a Tagging Grenade that reveals their locations, essentially working like a cheat or wallhack. The combo works so well that many are calling it a legal cheat for PvP, and some even argue it should be nerfed.<\/p>\n

For those unfamiliar with these underrated ARC Raiders<\/em> gadgets, a Smoke Grenade creates a fog where nothing can be seen; the ARC and players outside the smoke cannot see inside, and those inside the smoke cannot see outside. The Tagging Grenade works like an auto-ping on enemies in a twenty-foot radius that tracks their location for about 30 seconds. Together, these gadgets can block the enemy’s vision while revealing their whereabouts and tracking their movements. That said, the Smoke and Tagging Grenade trick is not without its downsides.<\/p>\n

As some players have pointed out, one tricky aspect is that the Tagging Grenade works on both downed and alive enemies. It can also tag any nearby ARC without distinguishing between them. When used on enemies trapped in smoke, the pings may not be entirely reliable unless the attacker is certain there are no unwanted targets in the area. Another issue is that the combo is not as effective as it sounds in open areas. For the pings to work well, enemies need to stay inside the smoke. That’s not always feasible in open parts of ARC Raiders<\/em> maps because targets can simply reposition. Even worse, since the Tagging Grenade’s effect lasts only 30 seconds, the attacker has only a brief window to strike and neutralize the threat, which makes the entire strategy a bit risky.<\/p>\n

Despite the downsides, both gadgets are slowly finding their way into most players’ inventories, especially among ARC Raiders<\/em> fans looking to hunt others down. One reason it will likely become a metagame strategy is that most PvP action already takes place indoors on maps like Stella Montis. These are areas where close-range combat is usually inevitable, and it is in these scenarios that the combination of Smoke and Tagging Grenades becomes most useful. In the coming months, it will be interesting to see whether players come up with a counter strategy for this method or if Embark Studios decides to nerf the involved gadgets.<\/p>\n
