A Choa Chu Kang resident lashed out at a foreign worker who was laying a makeshift path from his flat to the lift, as a video of the encounter went viral.<\/p>\n
The man claimed he had been trapped in his unit for an hour while the corridor was being painted on Nov 13.<\/p>\n
A video of the incident, apparently filmed by the resident, was posted by @SG Daily on TikTok on Dec 4, garnering over 602,800 views and 19,700 likes as of press time.<\/p>\n
“12pm corridor painting triggers dispute after resident claims he was ‘stuck’ in his unit for 1 hour,” the caption read.<\/p>\n
‘How am I supposed to go out and have lunch?’<\/h3>\n
The 28-second clip shows a foreign worker, wearing a T-shirt with the logo AR-Crete Flooring Specialist, laying planks on a freshly painted floor to form a makeshift path from the man’s unit to the lift.<\/p>\n
The man is heard asking the worker: “So did your supervisor ask you to do it? Yes or no?”<\/p>\n
“You put like that, how am I supposed to go out and have lunch?” he asks. “I only have one hour lunch break, you know.”<\/p>\n
The worker finishes laying the planks, dusts his hands and walks away without a word.<\/p>\n
“So your supervisor asked you to do it now, at 12pm?” the man continues. “Like, seriously, don’t you think this is stupid? People don’t need to go out of the house at 12pm ah?”<\/p>\n
Stomp has reached out to AR-Crete Flooring Specialist for comment.<\/p>\n
Repeated reminders from town council<\/h3>\n
In response to Stomp’s queries, a Choa Chu Kang Town Council spokesperson confirmed that enhancement works were carried out at Block 395 Bukit Batok West Avenue 5 on Nov 13.<\/p>\n
This included application of floor screed \u2013 a thin layer of cement \u2013 to corridors.<\/p>\n
A week before the scheduled works, notices were displayed at the block’s lift lobby, and a reminder was delivered to each unit \u2013 on top of door-to-door visits by the contractor on the day, the spokesperson added.<\/p>\n

<\/picture>No concerns were raised by other residents, said the spokesperson.<\/p>\n
The works, lasting about an hour, were carried out in stages across different units and floors from 8.30am to 6.30pm.<\/p>\n
Netizens slam resident for entitled behaviour<\/h3>\n
Many netizens called the man’s behaviour “entitled” and “disrespectful”.<\/p>\n
“The whole world only revolves on [sic] his 1hr lunch break. No empathy on [sic] this migrant worker at all?” one netizen said.<\/p>\n
“Calling people stupid as if he’s the genius one. Do their work lor [sic] if he’s so clever,” another added.<\/p>\n
Several commenters noted that the worker was not at fault and called for more respect for migrant workers, while others praised him for his calm demeanor.<\/p>\n
“I like the way he just ignored him,” wrote one.<\/p>\n
“People solve problem [sic] for him still keep scolding poor fella [sic],” another commented.<\/p>\n
In a recent incident, a group of foreign workers was scolded by a member of the public for resting at a void deck<\/a><\/span>, apparently located in the Bishan-Toa Payoh constituency.<\/p>\n
