SINGAPORE \u2013 The annual Chingay Parade will take place on Feb 27 and 28 in 2026 with more than 3,000 performers involved, featuring the largest community collaboration in the event\u2019s history in Singapore, the People\u2019s Association (PA) has said. <\/p>\n
The 54th edition of the parade will display the Republic\u2019s rich multicultural heritage, blending tradition with modern creativity. <\/p>\n
Chingay Parade 2026 will feature\u00a0five \u201cmagnificent\u201d floats,\u00a0created by 5,000 residents\u00a0<\/b>from the five districts in Singapore \u2013 Central, North East, North West, South East and South West. <\/p>\n
PA said on Dec 4 that the floats for the 2026 event are \u201cfull-scale\u201d and measure 7m in length, up from the 3m-long mini-floats that have been used over the past few years. The floats, created by local artists and residents, are planned to be powered by electric motors, it noted. <\/p>\n
For the first time in the parade\u2019s history, audiences will be seated in a\u00a0ring-shaped arena surrounding a circular multi-tier stage, creating an unprecedented 360-degree immersive experience that transforms spectators into active participants of the Chingay celebration, said PA. <\/p>\n
PA\u2019s chief executive director Jimmy Toh said: \u201cFor more than five decades, Chingay Parade has been a celebration of Singapore\u2019s multiculturalism \u2013 a co-creation made possible by PA\u2019s partnership with communities and individuals from all walks of life. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe 2026 edition will spotlight how the wishes of Singaporeans, like sparks, can be ignited into a dazzling spectacle appreciated by audiences in our nation and beyond.\u201d <\/p>\n
The evening extravaganza event will unfold across eight acts, four of which will be inspired by local festivals \u2013 Chinese New Year, Christmas, Deepavali and Hari Raya. <\/p>\n
Each act highlights the common values and joyous spirit that unite racial communities during festivities. <\/p>\n
Drums and flutes will also feature across these segments, with musicians coming together as ensembles in subsequent segments that place a spotlight on community talent and ASEAN nations. <\/p>\n
As with previous years, PA will host vulnerable and less privileged individuals, and their caregivers, through Chair for a Cause @ Chingay. <\/p>\n
In November 2024, Singapore and Malaysia <\/p>\n announced that the two countries will be jointly nominating<\/p>\n <\/a> the Chingay parade to be inscribed on UNESCO\u2019s intangible cultural heritage list. <\/p>\n The National Heritage Board said the nomination was jointly decided by both countries, which have Chingay-practising communities in Singapore, Johor Bahru and Penang. <\/p>\n The joint nomination is\u00a0<\/p>\n Singapore\u2019s third submission<\/p>\n <\/a> to the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, following the successful inscription of\u00a0<\/p>\n hawker culture<\/p>\n
