{"id":16726,"date":"2025-12-04T14:16:38","date_gmt":"2025-12-04T06:16:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=16726"},"modified":"2025-12-04T14:16:38","modified_gmt":"2025-12-04T06:16:38","slug":"teacher-accused-of-helping-loan-shark-commit-harassment-handed-second-charge-for-similar-offence","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=16726","title":{"rendered":"Teacher accused of helping loan shark commit harassment handed second charge for similar offence"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">SINGAPORE \u2013 <!-- -->A teacher <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/courts-crime\/teacher-charged-with-acting-on-loansharks-behalf-to-commit-harassment?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">accused of acting on behalf of an unlicensed moneylender<\/p>\n<p><\/a> to harass a resident of a flat over an unpaid loan was handed a second similar charge linked to another household on Dec 4.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Geraldine Quek Yi Ling, who turned 42 two days ago, is now accused of two counts of acting on <!-- -->behalf<!-- --> of an unlicensed moneylender known as \u201cTravis Heng\u201d.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">She was offered <!-- -->bail<!-- --> of $15,000 on Dec 4.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">For both charges, she allegedly abetted a Malaysian man, identified as Mohd Hairul Nizam Mohd Johar, 40,\u00a0to commit the offences on Nov 19.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">According to her latest charge, Quek allegedly prepared and handed Hairul a paper bag containing a raw pork hoof and a note, addressed to a person with a Chinese name.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">After that, Hairul allegedly hung it on the handle of a gate <!-- -->of<!-- --> a Housing Board flat in Fernvale Road in Sengkang, causing annoyance to a person in the flat.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Quek\u2019s initial charge, which was handed to her in November, has also been amended.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">She is now accused of preparing and handing over a paper bag containing similar items to Hairul, who allegedly hung it on the handle of <!-- -->the<!-- --> gate <!-- -->of<!-- --> an HDB flat in Dawson Road, near Alexandra Road.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">This note was addressed to a man with a Muslim-sounding name.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Hairul was earlier charged with this offence, but the charge was withdrawn on Nov 28.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The notes mentioned in both charges had stated: \u201c(What\u2019s) owed must be paid. Call me before I come and burn your&#8230; house.
