Even though these words might technically be in Malay, \u201cwe have a unique way of saying it\u201d. \u201cThere\u2019s that pressure to be as authentic as possible, even though it\u2019s in the realm of TV. You just want to get it non-cringy, lah,\u201d said the 52-year-old, who studied Malay in school \u201cbut failed badly\u201d.<\/p>\n
On that note, \u201cwe have English as the base, but we also have a lot of Mandarin, Malay, Tamil and even Tagalog\u201d in the show, Lopez said. \u201cThat, to me, is unique and, I think, quintessentially Singapore. We have all these languages and cultures \u2013 why not celebrate it? Who gives a rat\u2019s hairy butt whether we say \u2018lah\u2019 or not? It\u2019s us.
