It\u2019s part <span data-qa=\"Component-Text\" class=\"css-0 ef9u0v00\">caf\u00e9<\/span>, part singing studio, part art space. \u201cWe\u2019re trying to build a community,\u201d says co-founder Charlie Yip. When the opportunity came up to rent an entire building in <span data-qa=\"Component-Text\" class=\"css-0 ef9u0v00\">Sai Kung<\/span>, he and the team took a chance. Wander into Old Town and you\u2019ll find a network of homegrown caf\u00e9s shaped by the people who run them and the neighbourhood that raised them.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Tales Caf\u00e9 charms with New York\u2013style sandwiches, bagels and unfussy coffee. NN (No Nationality) Coffee and Kachimushi embrace Japanese-Scandi minimalism, offering calm, clean spaces for thoughtful coffee and simple lunches. Sai Kung\u2019s slow-paced lifestyle has also attracted local bakeries like Schragels, which in October opened its second location next to the Aussie brunch favourite chain Little Cove. (Its other one is in Sheung Wan.) \u201cThe slower, outdoorsy rhythm of Sai Kung lets people really enjoy the experience, which is a refreshing contrast to the fast pace on Hong Kong Island,\u201d says founder Rebecca Schrage.<\/div>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Since opening in 2022, Arm Coffee has evolved into a broader lifestyle cafe. \u201cPeople aren\u2019t just coming in for coffee anymore,\u201d says founder Kaka Cheng. \u201cThey want a place that feels good \u2013 comfortable, social, reflective of how they want to live. Customers come here to refresh their minds \u2013 and honestly, the satisfaction I get from that is something no other career path could offer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Neko Bear Caf\u00e9, the Japanese-style teahouse opened in 2021 by partners Leigh Yiu and Fish Fung, takes a similar approach with \u201cwhole food made with love\u201d. \u201cWe\u2019ve always loved Sai Kung,\u201d says Yiu. \u201cPeople here are warm \u2013 you can talk to anyone on the street and end up in a full conversation.
