{"id":15725,"date":"2025-11-30T23:16:42","date_gmt":"2025-11-30T15:16:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=15725"},"modified":"2025-11-30T23:16:42","modified_gmt":"2025-11-30T15:16:42","slug":"whats-owed-must-be-paid-english-teacher-charged-over-helping-loan-shark-commit-harassment-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=15725","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;What&#8217;s owed must be paid&#8217;: English teacher charged over helping loan shark commit harassment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\"><span><b>Shaffiq Alkhatib<\/b><\/span><span><br \/><\/span><span><b>The Straits Times<\/b><\/span><span><br \/><\/span><span><b>Nov 28, 2025<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">A secondary school teacher allegedly conspired with a man to act on behalf of an unlicensed moneylender and harass a resident of a flat over an unpaid loan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">On Nov 27, <span><a class=\"text-primary-500 hover:underline\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/courts-crime\/teacher-charged-with-acting-on-loansharks-behalf-to-commit-harassment\" target=\"_blank\">Geraldine Quek Yi Ling, 41, was charged with acting on behalf of the loan shark<\/a><\/span> identified in court documents as &#8220;Travis Heng&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">The Singaporean teacher was ordered to be remanded at the Central Police Division and her case has been adjourned to Dec 4.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">According to court documents, she allegedly conspired with Malaysian Mohd Hairul Nizam Mohd Johar, 40, to commit the offence on Nov 19.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">He was earlier charged with the offence, but the charge was withdrawn on Nov 28.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Hairul had been accused of hanging a paper bag containing pork and a note on the handle of a gate to a Housing Board flat in Dawson Road near Alexandra Road.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">The note was addressed to a man with a Muslim-sounding name, who had purportedly failed to repay a loan. The note stated: &#8220;(What&#8217;s) owed must be paid, call me before I come and burn your&#8230; house.
