SINGAPORE – Three people were taken to hospital after a large tree branch fell on at least two cars on the ECP on the afternoon of Nov 29.<\/p>\n
The Singapore Civil Defence Force and police said they were alerted to an accident involving a trailer and five cars on the ECP in the direction of the city, just before the Fort Road exit, at about 1.35pm.<\/p>\n
A 71-year-old male car driver and his 32-year-old male passenger, and another 70-year-old male car driver, were taken conscious to Raffles Hospital.<\/p>\n
Two others were assessed for minor injuries, but declined to be taken to hospital.<\/p>\n
In response to The Straits Times\u2019 queries, the National Parks Board (NParks) said it was alerted to the \u201ctree branch snap\u201d incident at about 2pm.<\/p>\n
Mr Oh Cheow Sheng, NParks\u2019 group director for streetscape, said a tall vehicle travelling in the first lane had struck a rain tree (Samanea saman) branch, causing it to snap and fall onto trailing vehicles in the first and second lanes.<\/p>\n
He added that the obstruction was cleared at around 3.30pm, and NParks is in touch with the relevant agencies to reach out to the affected parties.<\/p>\n
When ST arrived at the scene at about 2.45pm, some cars were seen parked along the rightmost lanes of the expressway, which was cordoned off by the authorities.<\/p>\n
