{"id":15282,"date":"2025-11-29T01:19:36","date_gmt":"2025-11-28T17:19:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=15282"},"modified":"2025-11-29T01:19:36","modified_gmt":"2025-11-28T17:19:36","slug":"commuter-asks-how-oversized-pma-made-it-onto-mrt-without-detection-and-interception","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=15282","title":{"rendered":"Commuter asks how &#8216;oversized&#8217; PMA made it onto MRT without &#8216;detection and interception&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Another day, another big personal mobility device (PMD) on the MRT.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Stomper <span><b>Anthony<\/b><\/span> was bewildered to see what he described as an &#8220;oversized two-seater PMD&#8221; on a North-South Line train.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">He took pictures of a man riding the red personal mobility aid (PMA) on Nov 26 at 6.30am and shared the &#8220;clear photo evidence&#8221; in an email to Stomp, the Land Transport Authority, the Ministry of Transport and SMRT.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Anthony wrote: &#8220;The train was heading towards Marina Bay, while this PMD was seen remaining in the cabin after Yew Tee MRT station.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">&#8220;Certainly the authorities would be well aware of the implications in allowing such non-compliant devices within the public transport network \u2013 without detection and interception.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Anthony told Stomp on Nov 28 that he had yet to hear back from anyone else about his email.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Under the<span><a class=\"text-primary-500 hover:underline\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.lta.gov.sg\/content\/ltagov\/en\/getting_around\/active_mobility\/rules_and_public_education\/rules_and_code_of_conduct.html\" target=\"_blank\"> Active Mobility Act<\/a><\/span>, PMAs must have only one seat and be used by a person who has difficulty walking.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">They may be used on public transport as long as they meet the following requirements:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"font-secondary list-outside list-disc pl-lg pt-md text-grayscale-800 lg:pl-xl\">\n<li>Total weight (including user): 300kg<\/li>\n<li>Length: 120cm<\/li>\n<li>Width: 70cm<\/li>\n<li>Height (from floor to top of PMA or user&#8217;s head when seated, whichever is higher): 150cm<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">This is not the first time commuters have raised safety concerns involving PMDs on the MRT.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">A <span><a class=\"text-primary-500 hover:underline\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.stomp.sg\/trending-now\/so-dangerous-man-and-child-allegedly-hog-half-mrt-cabin-pma-netizens-worried-ahead?ref=tag-listing\" target=\"_blank\" data-discover=\"true\">Reddit post<\/a><\/span> earlier this month showed a child on the lap of a man who was sitting on a PMA.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-secondary pt-md text-18 font-normal leading-1.5 text-grayscale-800\">Separately, Stomper J spotted a man riding an unusually large PMA on the East-West Line on Nov 7 and exclaimed: &#8220;AGAIN, WHY DID A BIG PMD COME INTO THE MRT!?????
