An 81-year-old woman’s Yishun flat was allegedly broken into and left in ‘chaos’, with her belongings scattered across the home and several important documents still missing, said her family.<\/p>\n
Stomper G<\/b><\/span>, a relative of the elderly woman, said the family discovered the incident on Nov 23 when they visited the flat and found the main gate had been tampered with.<\/p>\n According to them, the gate had been secured with a new padlock that the grandmother neither authorised nor installed.<\/p>\n Inside the unit, drawers were emptied onto the floor, storage areas were overturned and a bedroom door appeared damaged.<\/p>\n They also found that the home security camera’s memory card had been removed.<\/p>\n Speaking on behalf of the family, G shared that the household cat had been left locked inside the flat without food or water until they arrived.<\/p>\n He claimed that several important items belonging to the elderly woman, including her NRIC, passport, bank documents, gold jewellery and cash have not been returned despite repeated requests.<\/p>\n The woman, who has multiple medical conditions and limited mobility, was reportedly unaware of the break-in, the damaged door and the missing documents.<\/p>\n The family also expressed concern that her Singpass account had recently been suspended, raising fears of possible unauthorised access to her personal information and digital identity.<\/p>\n The Stomper said the family has reported the matter to various authorities, including the police, in hopes of securing the elderly woman’s identification documents and preventing further intrusion into her home.<\/p>\n “What we walked into was shocking,” G said. “No elderly person should have their home broken into or their important documents withheld.<\/p>\n “We hope this raises awareness about elder exploitation and protects other vulnerable seniors.”<\/p>\n G told Stomp that he believes the ‘break-in’ was carried out by other relatives.<\/p>\n He further alleged that the situation stems from a long-running family dispute and believes the elderly woman may have been coerced into actions she did not fully understand.<\/p>\n He claims she was not aware that changes had been made to household or property matters involving her Yishun flat.<\/p>\n The Stomper added that the family has been “fighting a tough battle” to protect her welfare.<\/p>\n In response to a Stomp query, the police confirmed that a report was lodged and investigations are ongoing.<\/p>\n![\"\"](\"https:\/\/cassette.sphdigital.com.sg\/image\/stomp\/806e954985073eaa598c2df9139996733754b1011f3b331f76ce770ab8fa3895\/embed-1_0.jpg?w=360&f=webp)
