{"id":13208,"date":"2025-11-20T23:22:49","date_gmt":"2025-11-20T15:22:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=13208"},"modified":"2025-11-20T23:22:49","modified_gmt":"2025-11-20T15:22:49","slug":"drink-in-focus-like-minded-creatures-at-the-old-man","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=13208","title":{"rendered":"Drink in Focus: Like-Minded Creatures at The Old Man"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"\">\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Much like the way words on a page can evoke scenery, character and emotion, the Ernest Hemingway-inspired concept at The Old Man sought to do so with its recently released seventh menu, titled Relations, and through drinks like the Like-Minded Creatures.<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Also quite like Hemingway\u2019s brusque but otherwise detailed and hyper-focused prose, the Like-Minded Creatures aims to evoke an extremely specific experience in nature. \u201cThe Like-Minded Creatures started with a simple idea [of] capturing the feeling of walking through a forest in the early morning \u2013 the damp earth, fresh greenery and that quiet calm before the day begins,\u201d says Nikita Matveev, director of operations at The Old Man. \u201cThat atmosphere became the backbone of the drink.\u201d<\/p>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">Since its founding in 2017, The Old Man has been known for its use of cutting-edge equipment like rotovaps and centrifuges to bring obscure ingredients and colours to life (see The Sun Also Rises \u2013 the cocktail, not the Hemingway novel). To push this even further, the team honed in on four meticulously chosen and prepared ingredients \u2013 patchouli and moss redistilled El Tequile\u00f1o Blanco, Muyu Vetiver Gris liqueur, a home-made pear and aloe cordial, and cold brewed Kukicha.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image-inline-container e1a5rv550 css-1llrc1m e1yqhwb40\" data-qa=\"Component-renderMap-StyledDiv\">\n<div class=\"image-inline caption e1fvabeq0 css-19sk4h4 ea9pn0s0\" data-qa=\"Component-Container\">\n<figure class=\"image-inline caption ea9pn0s1 css-1qeofuq e1gf69pb0\" data-qa=\"ArticleImage-ArticleImageContainer\">\n<div data-qa=\"ArticleImage-handleRenderImage-ImageContainer\" class=\"css-0 e1gf69pb3\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"The interior of The Old Man in Central. Cheng<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1c6uqr6 ec74h0k1\">\u201cPatchouli and moss bring a naturally earthy, perfume-like quality that we couldn\u2019t get from more common ingredients,\u201d Matveev explains. \u201cRedistilling gives us purity \u2013 lifting the aroma without the weight or muddiness those botanicals usually carry. It\u2019s a way to take something unconventional and make it elegant and drinkable.\u201d<\/p>\n<div datatype=\"p\" data-qa=\"Component-Component\" class=\"e8zc9q40 css-1xdhyk6 ec74h0k0\">Patchouli seems to be the key ingredient here \u2013 it\u2019s an herb with small purple flowers that\u2019s native to Southeast Asia. Its essential oils are often extracted for perfumes, incense and insect repellent; the flower is sometimes dried and used in the herbal teas of Indonesian or <span data-qa=\"Component-Text\" class=\"css-0 ef9u0v00\">Chinese traditional medicine<\/span>.<\/div>\n<div class=\"image-inline-container e1a5rv550 css-1llrc1m e1yqhwb40\" data-qa=\"Component-renderMap-StyledDiv\">\n<div class=\"image-inline caption e1fvabeq0 css-19sk4h4 ea9pn0s0\" data-qa=\"Component-Container\">\n<figure class=\"image-inline caption ea9pn0s1 css-1vtntpq e1gf69pb0\" data-qa=\"ArticleImage-ArticleImageContainer\">\n<div data-qa=\"ArticleImage-handleRenderImage-ImageContainer\" class=\"css-0 e1gf69pb3\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"The Like-Minded Creatures cocktail from The Old Man\u2019s seventh menu, Relations.
