Chinese toymaker Pop Mart\u2019s collectible character Skullpanda is taking over the National Museum of Singapore (NMS) from Dec 12 to Feb 22.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Created by Chinese artist Xiong Miao, Skullpanda is a cutesy character with kewpie doll-like features sporting fat pigtails and an astronaut helmet. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The Skullpanda Cage-Uncage Showcase, which debuted in Shanghai, China, in July, will present a series of mobile installations and immersive tableaus. If social media captures are any indication, expect oversized sculptures, digital screen installations and kinetic works.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The showcase will explore six themes drawn from everyday life \u2013 Emotion, Fortune, Rules, Exploration, Life and Direction. At the height of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, the museum staged <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/life\/arts\/doraemon-invades-national-museum-of-singapore-for-an-instagram-fest?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">an Instagram-friendly installation of popular Japanese robot cat Doraemon<\/p>\n<p><\/a>. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">NMS\u2019 pivot to being a people\u2019s museum continued with 2022\u2019s Doraemon exhibition and<a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/life\/arts\/revisit-toys-of-yesteryear-at-national-museum-s-new-showcase-playdate?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\"> 2024\u2019s Play:Date \u2013 Unlocking Cabinets Of Play,<\/p>\n<p><\/a> which focused on popular culture.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">NMS\u2019 director Chung May Khuen said in a statement: \u201cOur commitment to examining contemporary Singapore means engaging with cultural movements such as collectible culture, allowing us to harness the phenomenon\u2019s widespread appeal to connect with diverse audiences through Skullpanda\u2019s artistry and provide new pathways to deeper museum experiences.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Early All Access tickets on sale now will allow ticket holders priority access to the showcase as well as access to showcase-exclusive merchandise. Ticket holders can purchase merchandise after completing their visit and exclusive items are limited to one piece each ticket holder. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Early All Access tickets are priced at $22 for Singaporeans and permanent residents and $40 for tourists.
