What should have been a routine flight back home to Kuala Lumpur turned into an unexpected “one\u2011day tour” of Changi Airport Terminal 4 for YES\u202f933 DJ Ting Fong, who was stranded for 12 hours after his AirAsia flight was twice delayed.<\/p>\n
The Singapore-based Malaysian joked in Chinese that he had “hit the jackpot” when he was greeted by a nine-hour delay.<\/p>\n
Then just as he said he was having a “G8 day”, he returned to his gate after nine hours \u2014 only to be greeted by news of another three-hour delay.<\/p>\n
Posted on Nov 15, Ting’s Instagram video had garnered more than 63,500 views, 1,109 reactions and 74 comments at press time.<\/p>\n
According to the flight details posted by Ting, the flight was supposed to depart at 10.05am, but only took off at 8.59pm.<\/p>\n

During the nine-hour wait, Ting was offered lunch by the airline, which consisted of fried rice with either prawns or pork chop.<\/p>\n
The DJ said he had one lingering concern throughout the ordeal: “Can I get any compensation?”, as he realised he had not purchased travel insurance for the trip.<\/p>\n
“Who would even think of buying insurance for a one hour flight,” Ting said in frustration, though he later clarified that he was eligible for a refund from AirAsia.<\/p>\n
Faced with a second delay, Ting was offered another meal by the airline: a Texas Chicken set meal. He thanked AirAsia before adding: “This is the last time you will be treating me for my dinner, we would likely not meet again.”<\/p>\n

<\/picture>“Safety is the most important,” admitted Ting, who eventually managed to board his flight to Kuala Lumpur after the long delay.<\/p>\n
In response to Stomp’s queries, Ting said that the first delay was due to a technical issue, but he was unclear about the reason for the second delay.<\/p>\n
“This is not my first time taking AirAsia,” Ting said, while adding that it was his “first time facing such long flight delays”.<\/p>\n
“It was also the first time for some passengers. Some of them missed their short holiday trips or banquets they were supposed to attend and those with connecting flights were also affected.”<\/p>\n
Stomp has reached out to Air Asia for comment.<\/p>\n
‘If you had taken the bus, you would have already arrived’: Netizen<\/h3>\n
Most netizens found Ting’s ordeal amusing, saying he might as well have taken a bus or, as a popular joke goes, swam to Malaysia in two minutes.<\/p>\n
“It’s just a flight to KL and it got delayed for so long! Could have flown somewhere better already,” one user commented.<\/p>\n
Some shared their own experiences with flight delays, recalling even worse situations overseas. “There was nothing open except a tiny little 7-Eleven,” said one.<\/p>\n
Others suggested avoiding AirAsia when flying back to KL, with one warning: “Sometimes they won’t even fly”.<\/p>\n
Some also praised Ting Fong’s patience for waiting so long at the airport, while one poked fun at him: “If I bought you a lip balm, would you use it?”<\/p>\n
