{"id":12409,"date":"2025-11-18T01:01:42","date_gmt":"2025-11-17T17:01:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=12409"},"modified":"2025-11-18T01:01:42","modified_gmt":"2025-11-17T17:01:42","slug":"pulau-brani-people-mover-system-under-study","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=12409","title":{"rendered":"Pulau Brani people-mover system under study"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">SINGAPORE \u2013 <!-- -->The Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) is exploring a new people-mover system that will run between Pulau Brani and mainland Singapore.   <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">A people-mover system refers to a transit system, such as the Sentosa Express monorail service that links VivoCity shopping complex with the resort island. <!-- --> <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Based on tender documents published on government procurement portal GeBiz on O<!-- -->ct 24<!-- -->, SDC is seeking consultancy services to conduct a feasibility study for the \u201cconceptual planning\u201d of a people-mover system along a new bridge, Keppel Link, that will connect mainland Singapore and the west of Pulau Brani.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">In response to queries from The Straits Times, SDC said on <!-- -->Nov 17<!-- --> that it will be exploring \u201cinnovative transportation solutions\u201d to improve accessibility and visitors\u2019 experience as part of efforts to enhance connectivity under the Greater Sentosa Master Plan. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Previously known as the Sentosa-Brani Master Plan, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/politics\/national-day-rally-2019-in-the-pipeline-a-downtown-south-resort-near-sentosa?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">announced in 2019<\/p>\n<p><\/a>, the plan involves redeveloping Sentosa and Pulau Brani into a tourist destination over the next two to three decades. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The Brani Terminal, run by port operator PSA, makes up a large part of Pulau Brani. It will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/tuas-mega-port-hits-milestone-of-handling-10-million-containers-since-opening?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">fully relocate to the new Tuas megaport<\/p>\n<p><\/a> by 2027.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The island also houses the Police Coast Guard\u2019s headquarters.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Pulau Brani is sandwiched between the south of mainland Singapore and Sentosa, and is about <!-- -->340m<!-- --> away from Keppel Harbour, according to national map service OneMap.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">SDC said the \u201chigh-level\u201d feasibility study is meant to assess the various options that could complement its existing transport infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">According to the <!-- -->masterplan<!-- -->, the eastern part of Pulau Brani will be home to the Waterfront zone, while its central portion will house the Ridgeline zone, which will connect green spaces and feature nature and heritage attractions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">To the west of the island, there will be the Vibrant Cluster \u2013 with large-scale attractions spanning both Sentosa and Pulau Brani \u2013 and a lifestyle and commercial zone, Island Heart, where hotels, conference spaces, dining options and shops will be located. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">In his National Day Rally speech in 2019, then Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong had said a Downtown South resort was likely to be built on Pulau Brani.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">These redevelopment plans were later <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/consumer\/impact-of-covid-19-on-sentosa-brani-plans-to-be-studied?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">shelved temporarily because of the Covid-19 pandemic<\/p>\n<p><\/a>. Since then, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/life\/home-design\/sentosa-sensoryscape-to-open-on-march-14-with-immersive-phygital-experience?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">Sentosa Sensoryscape attraction<\/p>\n<p><\/a> was completed in March 2024 \u2013 the first completed project under the masterplan. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Artist\u2019s impressions from a publicity video released by SDC in 2019 showed an above-ground people-mover system in the Island Heart zone of Pulau Brani, connecting visitors to the beachfront and other spots across the island.
