Cambodia and Singapore have officially launched the first phase of a new cross-border QR code payment system, allowing Cambodian travelers to use their local bank accounts for transactions in Singapore.<\/p>\n

Under Phase 1, which enables the \u201cCambodia scans QR codes in Singapore\u201d flow, Cambodian residents holding Khmer Riel bank accounts can now make quick and secure real-time payments in Singapore.<\/p>\n

Users can utilise the Bakong app or other participating mobile banking applications to scan RoamQR codes displayed by SGQR merchants throughout the country.<\/p>\n

The launch took place at the Singapore Fintech Festival, where National Bank of Cambodia<\/a> Governor Chea Serey officiated the rollout.<\/p>\n

The new linkage is intended to make everyday spending easier for Cambodian visitors by removing the need for cash exchanges or physical payment cards and by promoting greater use of local currencies in cross-border settings.<\/p>\n

Authorities describe the initiative as a bilateral effort that supports wider goals to deepen trade, tourism and economic cooperation.<\/p>\n

It also reflects both countries\u2019 interest in strengthening regional payment connectivity and advancing long-term economic growth.<\/p>\n

The project is being delivered with support from private-sector partners Acleda Bank, Phillip Bank and Liquid Group, which helped initiate the cross-border payment link.<\/p>\n

The partnership aligns with Cambodia\u2019s broader plans to widen digital payments adoption, improve financial inclusion and support regional integration through digital innovation.<\/p>\n
