Mixing Cantopop into DJ sets comes naturally to Hong Kong drummer Stephane Wong.<\/p>\n
Going by the moniker Steffunn when spinning disco tunes, the 40-something learned to play the drums at age eight and has been DJing for two decades.<\/p>\n
But that instinct comes mostly from Wong playing the drums for many 2000s Cantopop hits \u2013 on stage and in the studio \u2013 and working with industry behemoths like Joey Yung Cho-yee, Grasshopper<\/span> and Eason Chan Yick-shun<\/span>.<\/div>\n
\u201cCantopop from that era seems to be more representative of the genre. Karaoke was such a big thing back then,\u201d Wong says. \u201cAs a concert musician, I used to have to fly every week in the 2000s.\u201d<\/p>\n
Since around 2018, however, he has mainly worked on Yung\u2019s tours, citing a close friendship and working relationship as the singer\u2019s preferred concert drummer.<\/p>\n

The award-winning diva even made an appearance at Wong\u2019s Cantopop disco party in July 2025, which he co-hosted with fellow DJ Fabsabs<\/span>. Both are core members of the party organising collective known as Cantomania.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
