There’s nothing more satisfying than recreating a beloved Dungeons and Dragons <\/strong><\/em>character in Baldur’s Gate 3<\/strong> \u2014<\/em> even if you have to spend hours painstakingly fiddling with the Character Creator. The reverse is just as wonderful and, with the release of the <\/em>new Heroes of Faerun <\/em>and Adventures in Faerun <\/em>books for Dungeons and Dragons<\/em>, just got easier. In particular, the books contain a plethora of Bhaal and Bhaalspawn-related content for Baldur’s Gate 3 <\/em>fans looking to recreate their Dark Urge in tabletop form.<\/p>\n

\n The Scion Of The Three Is Perfect For Bhaalspawn \n <\/h2>\n

The Dark Urge in Baldur’s Gate 3<\/em> is a beloved character option <\/em>because it takes the story in unique directions, connects to the events of Baldur’s Gate 1 <\/em>and 2, <\/em>and represents a middle ground between a completely custom “Tav” and a more structured Origin Character. Dark Urges are the amnesiac spawn of Bhaal, God of Murder, who can reject or embrace their bloody destiny. Heroes of Faerun <\/em>and Adventures in Faerun <\/em>acknowledge the popularity of the Dark Urge with subclasses, feats, lore, and premade adventures that are perfect for playing as a Bhaalspawn.<\/p>\n

Players wanting to create a Dark Urge should try out the Scion of the Three, a new Rogue subclass introduced in Heroes of Faerun<\/em>. The Scion of the Three allows characters to swear allegiance to Bane, Bhaal, or Myrkul. Scions of the Three can Frighten foes, deal damage with their very aura, and boost their Sneak Attack’s effectiveness. In particular, choosing Bhaal as a patron grants the following:<\/p>\n

\n Poison damage resistance\n <\/li>\n
\n Blade Ward cantrip\n <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
Multiclassing into Scion of the Three for just three levels grants Bloodthirst, which is used to teleport to and attack Bloodied enemies, an ability that seems to be directly inspired by the Bhaalspawn Orin the Red. Players who want to play the Dark Urge but aren’t interested in being Rogues could also replace other abilities of their chosen class with Bloodthirst to add some Bhaalspawn flavor to their build.<\/p>\n

\n Dungeons and Dragons’ Bhaalspawn Feats And Lore \n <\/h2>\n

In addition to the Scion of the Three subclass, Heroes of Faerun <\/em>features plenty of other Bhaal-flavored goodies. The following boons would make perfect additions to any Dark Urge character:<\/p>\n

\n Boon of Bloodshed \u2014 <\/strong>Gain advantage on Attack rolls after killing foes, deal extra damage while Bloodied\n <\/li>\n
\n Boon of Terror \u2014 <\/strong>Become immune to the Frightened condition, increase the terror of Frightened foes, gain proficiency in Intimidation\n <\/li>\n
\n Boon of the Soul Drinker \u2014 <\/strong>Gain resistance to Cold and Necrotic damage, regain health when enemies are killed\n <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

While none of the Backgrounds introduced in the new Dungeons and Dragons <\/em>books are directly tied to the Dark Urge, the Dragon Cultist Background could easily be reworked to involve serving Bhaal’s cult instead. Its feat, Cult of the Dragon Initiate, lets players Frighten nearby creatures and gain Inspiration from their fear, which would suit the Dark Urge’s skillset well.<\/p>\n
There is also plenty of information about the Dead Three and how to serve them featured in both books. The “Gods of Faerun” section includes detailed information on Bhaal and his followers, while Adventures in Faerun<\/em>‘s “Baldur’s Gate Gazetteer” describes key Bhaal cult locations around the city, such as Candulhallow’s Tombstones and the temple in the sewers where players can confront Orin in Baldur’s Gate 3.<\/em><\/p>\n
\n An Adventure Fit For A Dark Urge \n <\/h3>\n

In addition to subclasses, feats, backgrounds, and more, the new Forgotten Realms books include several pre-made Dungeons and Dragons <\/em>adventures. One in particular, “Blood Night,” seems tailor-made for Dark Urge players. It involves players finding themselves caught in the middle of a “murder contest” held by several wealthy Bhaal-worshipping patriars. Players could easily insert their Dark Urge character into the story, either as a participant or someone who is trying to stop the bloodshed. Perhaps that’s what the Dark Urge got up to after the events of Baldur’s Gate 3 \u2014<\/em> stopping Bhaal’s followers from sacrificing more souls to the Lord of Murder.<\/p>\n
