Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds<\/strong><\/em> has announced that the SpongeBob Squarepants<\/em> DLC will be added to the game on November 19, 2025. Additionally, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds<\/em> revealed three more free characters that will be added to the racing roster in the near future.<\/p>\n

While there have been many comparisons made between Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds<\/em> and Mario Kart World<\/em>, Sega’s title has been much more focused on bringing in crossover characters from Sega games and other franchises entirely. While Mario Kart 8 Deluxe<\/em> brought over some additional Nintendo characters from outside the Mario<\/em> series itself, so far, Mario Kart World<\/em> has stuck with a core Mario <\/em>cast.<\/p>\n

\n Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Announces SpongeBob DLC Release Date and More
\n <\/h2>\n

Sega has now revealed that players can get the SpongeBob Squarepants<\/em> DLC starting on November 19, 2025 at 5pm PT. The DLC will add SpongeBob himself and Patrick Star as playable racers, as well as a new Bikini Bottom track, a Patty Wagon vehicle, six emotes per character, and Spongebob<\/em>-inspired music. The DLC will be included as Wave 2 of the Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds<\/em> season pass, and can also be purchased separately upon release. <\/p>\n

While many fans are excited for the SpongeBob<\/em> crossover, there are also some free racers to look forward to before 2025 closes out, and to welcome in 2026. In December, NiGHTS will be added to the game as a new playable character alongside the Dream Sleeper vehicle. NiGHTS originated in the 1996 Sega game Nights into Dreams<\/em>, and while the series has only seen two full games, the character remains popular. In January 2026, the game will add Super Monkey Ball<\/em>‘s AiAi as a playable character, who will arrive with a Banana Cruiser vehicle. The last announcement is that Sonic <\/em>characters Tangle and Whisper will be added as playable racers in February 2026. No vehicle was announced for the duo.<\/p>\n

From the sound of it, Sega fans have a lot to look forward to in Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds<\/em>. The game will be launching for Switch 2 before the end of 2025, which will likely introduce even more players to the title. Though they lack exact release dates at the moment, Sega will also be adding DLC characters, tracks, and vehicles based off of series and characters like Pac-Man<\/em>, Mega Man<\/em>, and more that has yet to be revealed. Sega has also asked players which characters they want to be added to Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds<\/em>, so it seems likely that the game will continue to be supported for the forseeable future, and will likely see even more fan-favorite faces join the game.<\/p>\n
