Fallout 4<\/em><\/strong> is getting review bombed on Steam after its Anniversary Edition angered fans. The fourth mainline entry in Bethesda’s post-apocalyptic RPG series is one of its most beloved, with countless players still coming back to the game a decade after its release. While players may still love Fallout 4<\/em> at its core, the same can’t be said for its latest edition.<\/p>\n

Bethesda announced Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition<\/em> on October 23 during its annual Fallout Day celebration, and initial impressions were mixed. Despite the game’s popularity, some fans criticized the attention to Fallout 4, <\/em>which had already received special versions in the past, when other, older entries like New Vegas<\/em> <\/em>and Fallout 3<\/em> still don’t have remasters. Others cited a lack of new content apart from the Creation Club, as all four DLCs included in the bundle have been out for a while.<\/p>\n

\n Fallout 4’s Recent Reviews Fall to ‘Mixed’ After Controversial Anniversary Edition

While Fallout 4<\/em>‘s overall Steam review score remains “Very Positive,” its recent English-language reviews have fallen to “Mixed.” Most of the recent negative reviews discuss how Fallout 4: Anniversary Edition <\/em>has disrupted the game’s modding scene, with many users also calling it a “money grab.” Some players claim the recent update has broken the game even when not using mods, leading to frustration that Bethesda has seemingly messed with something that was already working well just to make some extra money. There are some positive recent reviews, too, with these often telling others to avoid buying the Anniversary Edition and instead sticking with the base game, which users praise as still worth the acclaim 10 years down the line.<\/p>\n

This isn’t the first time Bethesda has landed in hot water after a new version of the game messed with mods. Some PC players resorted to rolling back Fallout 4<\/em>‘s next-gen update in 2024 after it caused many mods to stop working. These kinds of issues are common among titles with big modding scenes, as making significant changes to a game’s code can easily disrupt fan-made mods built on an earlier version. While it may not be an issue unique to Fallout 4<\/em>, the change hits particularly hard for some dedicated fans who’ve spent years enjoying community-made content and paid $40 to upgrade to the latest version.<\/p>\n

Bethesda has yet to comment on this backlash, and it remains unclear if it will attempt to fix Fallout 4<\/em>‘s mod support down the line. Rumor has it that multiple Fallout<\/em> projects are in development right now, which could mean a brand-new game or another remaster sometime in the near future.<\/p>\n
