The world\u2019s largest indoor skiing facility may be only a snow\u00adball\u2019s throw away from Hong Kong \u2013 Shenzhen\u2019s Qianhai Huafa Snow World<\/span> having opened in September \u2013 but we reckon the elements should play an integral part in any bona fide winter sports holiday. There\u2019s a reason they call it \u201cthe great outdoors\u201d, after all.<\/div>\n
Here are six destinations that embrace their surroundings yet still qualify as \u201cup-and-coming\u201d, and so may be worth considering for your next ski adventure.<\/p>\n

With its 1,200km of interconnected pistes, Unesco World Heritage scenery and a unique \u201cski safari\u201d culture \u2013 multi-day, point-to-point journeys that resemble road trips, albeit undertaken almost entirely on skis \u2013 the Dolomite mountain range in northeastern Italy is gearing up for an increase in visitors next year following its starring role in the upcoming Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games<\/span> (February 6 to 22, 2026) and the Paralympic Winter Games (March 6 to 15, 2026). The events have been spurring investment in hotels and infrastructure across the area\u2019s 12 ski resorts.<\/div>\n
Widely known as the Queen of the Dolomites<\/span>, the elegant town and commune of Cortina d\u2019Ampezzo has to-die-for views and strong sporting associations \u2013 hence its billing in the name of the Games \u2013 and will host, for the Olympics, all the women\u2019s Alpine events, the sliding sports (bobsleigh, luge and skeleton) and curling.<\/div>\n
