{"id":10443,"date":"2025-11-10T20:31:31","date_gmt":"2025-11-10T12:31:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=10443"},"modified":"2025-11-10T20:31:31","modified_gmt":"2025-11-10T12:31:31","slug":"ballot-papers-other-documents-used-in-ge2025-to-be-destroyed-on-nov-22","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sgbuzz.com\/?p=10443","title":{"rendered":"Ballot papers, other documents used in GE2025 to be destroyed on Nov 22"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">SINGAPORE \u2013 <!-- -->Ballot papers and other documents used in the 2025 General Election will be destroyed on Nov 22, said the Elections Department (ELD) on Nov 10. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The move, which is in accordance with the Parliamentary Elections Act, will see all sealed boxes containing ballot papers and other documents used in the election transported from the Supreme Court, where they have been kept in custody, to the Tuas South Incineration Plant for destruction.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">Under the Act, the items have to be sealed and retained in safe custody for six months, after which they will be destroyed unless otherwise directed by order of the President. <\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">This is to ensure the secrecy of the vote, ELD said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">ELD added that it will reach out to candidates or their representatives to invite them to witness the proceedings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">More than 2.4 million Singaporeans went to the polls at 1,240 polling stations across the island <a href=\"https:\/\/www.straitstimes.com\/singapore\/politics\/ge2025-pap-gets-65-57-per-cent-of-votes-in-landslide-win?ref=inline-article\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"gap-x-04 items-center inline text-primary-60 select-auto\" aria-label=\"link\" target=\"_blank\" data-testid=\"custom-link\"><\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular inline\" data-testid=\"paragraph-test-id\">on May 3.<\/p>\n<p><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"font-body-baseline-regular text-primary\" data-testid=\"article-paragraph-annotation-test-id\">The PAP won 65.57 per cent of the popular vote, securing 87 of 97 seats in Parliament.
