A woman has defended her decision to remain seated in a priority seat on an MRT train, saying she was recovering from an ankle injury after a fall that had left her unconscious for several hours.<\/p>\n
TikTok user @<\/b><\/span>beefjerkybj shared an eight-second video on Nov 7, showing her seated with the caption: “When the auntie wants me to get up from my priority seat. So I assert dominance by showing my ankle tag bruise.”<\/p>\n The clip, which has drawn more than 630,000 views at press time, shows a bruise on her right ankle<\/a><\/span>. In a follow-up video, she claimed that she had fallen and injured herself, losing consciousness in the train for about three hours.<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n While some viewers criticised her tone, many said she was within her rights to stay seated.<\/p>\n “Fyi u don’t need to give up wherever u’re seated regardless of priority reserved seat or not cause 1) it’s not illegal 2) since u paid for the fare why should u,” wrote one user.<\/p>\n Another added: “As an auntie, good for you for standing – no pun intended – up for yourself.”<\/p>\n Several also shared experiences of being told to give up their seats despite having valid reasons to sit.<\/p>\n “I fell and hurt my tailbone. Some uncle scolded me for using a priority seat in a half empty bus! What the helly, there are other EMPTY priority seats!!!” said one.<\/p>\n “I can’t sit in the priority seats on the bus. Aunty pointed a finger at me to get up. Guess what? The bus was almost empty!!!!!! Thankfully, I was with my mom all the time and she always ran to find seats for me, (though) people would look at me weirdly or disgusted.
