A 24-year-old man tried to buy a luxury watch valued at over $18,000 with a mobile wallet at Beach Road shop but failed after several attempts.<\/p>\n
He and another foreign national were arrested for using stolen debit and credit card details to commit payment fraud.<\/p>\n
The police said they received a call for assistance, but the man had left the scene before officers arrived.<\/p>\n
Officers from the Central Police Division subsequently established the identity of the suspect through extensive ground enquiries and with the aid of images from CCTVs and police cameras.<\/p>\n
Preliminary investigations revealed that the man had arrived in Singapore on Nov 6 with another 31-year-old man, both believed to be members of a transnational scam syndicate.<\/p>\n
The younger man is also believed to be involved in another case of payment fraud.<\/p>\n
Each man was arrested separately on Nov 6 and 7 in the transit area of Changi Airport before they were about to leave Singapore.<\/p>\n
Four mobile phones were seized as case exhibits.<\/p>\n
The two foreigners were to be charged in court on Nov 8 with the offence of conspiracy to cheat by personation, which carries an imprisonment term of up to five years, a fine or both.<\/p>\n
